Francis J. Manning, M.D.

Francis J. Manning, MD. graduated with honors from Harvard University, majoring in biochemical sciences. While earning his medical degree from The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, he received awards for academic excellence, including induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

 

He completed his Ophthalmology training at the University of Pennsylvania's Scheie Eye Institute followed by a Fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases at the Duke University Eye Center as a Heed Fellow. While at Duke, he was awarded top Ophthalmology Fellow.

 

He has served as Assistant Chief of Service at Scheie Eye Institute and as Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology both at the State University of New York's Health Science Center while in private practice in Syracuse, NY, and at The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. Dr. Manning has been published in several ophthalmology journals and was an investigator in the national, NIH-funded Cornea Donor Study.

 

He is Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Academy of Ophthalmology and state and local medical societies. He is the Chief, Division of Ophthalmology, Department of Surgery at Lancaster General Hospital. He serves on the Board of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology and is on the Board of Managers of the Physicians' Surgery Center - Lancaster General.

 

He is on staff at the Physicians' Surgery Center - Lancaster General and Lancaster General Hospital and has been in practice in Lancaster since 1997.

 

Dr. Manning and his wife, Joy, live in the Lancaster area and have three children.

Meet Our Physicians

Catherine T. Rommel, M.D.

Catherine T. Rommel, M.D. graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bethany College majoring in chemistry. She earned her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.

 

Dr. Rommel completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Presbyterian, University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia.

 

She completed her Ophthalmology training at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville where she served as Chief Resident. She also did specialty training in Laser and Medical Retina and then served on the clinical teaching staff at Geisinger Medical Center.

 

She has been involved with a pledget study and was a featured speaker at the annual meeting of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).

She is Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and state and local medical societies.

 

She is on staff at Lancaster General Hospital and Physicians' Surgery Center - Lancaster General.

 

Dr. Rommel and her husband, Dr. Michael Rommel, a urologist, live in the Lancaster area and have three children.

Adam R. Thode, M.D.

Adam R. Thode, M. D. graduated from Franklin & Marshall College with a double major in Biology and Spanish.  While earning his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, he received the “Soul of Medicine” award and achieved numerous other honors.

 

He completed his Internal Medicine internship at Washington Hospital Center / Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC, followed by his Ophthalmology residency at S.U.N.Y. Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.

 

He has completed his fellowship in Cornea, Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgery at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, New York, NY.  

 

Dr. Thode has studied the use of Optiwave Refractive Analysis in predicting postoperative refractive outcomes in cataract surgery as well as published on current and emerging strategies for the treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction.

 

Dr. Thode is Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and state and local medical societies.

 

He is on staff at Lancaster General Hospital and the Physicians’ Surgery Center-Lancaster General.

 

Dr. Thode and his wife, Dr. Joan Thode, a pediatrician, live in the Lancaster area with their daughter.
